Gulf of Main
|
A beautiful September day. We set off from Rye to try and find some of the whales which spend the summer feeding on the rich fish stocks of the Gulf of Maine. We set sale towards the Isles of Shoals in search of our photographic targets. Everyone is extra vigilant to catch a glimpse of the largest creatures in the world. The first whale we see is a Fin Whale. Similar to the great Blue Whales, the Fin Whale is actually only slightly smaller and is the World's second largest mammal. Everybody is really excited when we see the spume from an Atlantic Humbac. These whales are famous for being the only ones which breach. They can be real show-offs. This one is no exception although it stays in the water. |
